Programs for Ages 5-12
"Let nature be your teacher."
Would your child like to play and learn outdoors? Fresh Air Learning has three options for elementary school-aged children.
We have play-based forest programs for children ages 3-6 in North Vancouver or Vancouver or our 6-9-year-old program in North Vancouver. These programs are based on child-led outdoor play. You can find out more about our play-based programs here.
Our North Vancouver Nature School program provides elementary school-aged children ages 5 to 12 with a two day per week nature-based learning opportunity in forest and farm settings. This program is inspired by forest school, the 8 shields model of learning, permaculture design, and tinkering school. We've partnered with the Island Discovery Learning Community to offer a program for school-aged children who enrol as Distributed Learners. Learn more about this program here.
Join us for a day of play and learning in the forest and on the farm! This class for children ages 5-7 will focus on play-based, child-led learning for primary-aged children. Our teachers are there as facilitators to support your children's unique and emerging interest in nature. Teachers will also introduce learning opportunities and materials to the children. We will enjoy hands-on exploration of the Seymour River Heritage Park, Maplewood Farm, and Loutet Farm, with field trips to other locations in North Vancouver. This program is open to homelearners who are enrolled with Island Discovery Learning Community. Our ratio is a maximum of 1 teacher to 5 children. A Maplewood Farm annual family pass is included in your program fee.
Our Vancouver Nature Learners program in Vancouver is a play-based, child-led program for children ages 5 to 9. This two-day program supported by Island Discovery Learning Community takes place in Vancouver's parks, specifically Everett Crowley Park. Children must be enrolled as Distributed Learners.
